Be sure to have all your tools inside before closing the door unless you have an alternate access door to the garage.

A problem with the spring tension could cause the door to open or close unevenly improperly or at the wrong speed and adjusting the springs will likely solve the problem.
Garage door springs offset the weight of the door and allow it to open and close with ease.
One end of the spring is connected to the garage door track or frame.
Without the springs the door is very difficult to lift.
When garage doors won t close all of the way or they close unevenly spring adjustment may be called for.
There are two torsion springs at each side of the garage door.
Detach the old spring from both ends and replace it with the new one and replace the pulleys as well if they are worn out.
If the garage door isn t opening or closing properly then check the tension on the torsion springs for needed adjustments.

The springs are located at the top inside part of the garage door.
Start by removing the locking pin photo 1.
The torsion spring helps the garage door open and close easily.
Retest the door balance as you did in step 1.
If it was opening too quickly move it to the next lower hole.
Then add or release tension until you get the proper close rate photo 2.
The other is attached to a pulley connected to the cable.
If the door was closing too quickly move the spring to the next higher hole on the bracket.
Adjustment to torsion springs can be dangerous because they must be adjusted with the door down and the spring under tension.

Torsion springs must be adjusted with the door in the down position.
Adjust the spring into the proper position and make sure your garage door closes all of the way.
Once the spring is free of tension remove from its track hanger.
Adjust the springs on both sides of the door the same way.
